VARIO cutterbars.

VARIO cutterbars from CLAAS have been specially developed for harvesting grain and rapeseed. They are able to deliver impressively consistent peak performance and high area output, whether operating in low or high-yield settings. The ability to adjust the VARIO cutterbar table as required ensures an optimal crop flow at all times. This makes it possible for you to increase the overall performance of your combine harvester by up to 10%.

Practical benefits for you.

  • The integrated rapeseed plates are infinitely adjustable through a range of up to 700 mm
  • The angled cross-tube offers you a better view of the cutterbar table
  • There is a noticeable reduction in stalk intake by the optimised reel
  • Automatic reel tractive force control reduces your workload when harvesting laid grain
  • CEMOS AUTO HEADER takes care of adjusting the reel and the table length
  • Crop dividers and rapeseed knives can be fitted and removed quickly without the need for tools
  • The large, 660 mm diameter of the intake auger enables an optimal crop flow

Don't accept any compromises.

Automation begins at the front attachment.

Harvesting is easier, faster and more convenient when the cutterbar is matched perfectly to the crop and the combine harvester.
CLAAS front attachments and CLAAS machines are precisely coordinated to work together. The operators have full access to all the operator assistance systems and are able to deliver impressively high campaign performance right from the word go.

The TRION is able to harvest laid crops.

Maintains the crop flow.

Automatic reel tractive force control.

The hydraulic reel drive adjusts the tractive power of the reel automatically to cope with difficult harvesting conditions, such as laid crops. At the same time, the automatic height control system, which operates on the basis of the programmed pressure and sensitivity levels, helps to maintain a continuous crop flow.

CEMOS AUTO HEADER.

A touch of a button reduces the operator's workload.

CEMOS AUTO HEADER is the first assistance system that automatically adjusts cutterbar settings, such as table length and reel position, to the prevailing harvesting conditions. The FIELD SCANNER detects the height of the plants while the material feed height sensor in the feeder housing evaluates the crop flow. On the basis of these data, CEMOS AUTO HEADER actively controls the position of the reel and the VARIO cutterbar table.
This results in a consistent crop flow and improves the performance and efficiency of the threshing unit as well as the separation and cleaning functions. In other words, you can benefit from significantly greater convenience and precision at the touch of a button.

Automatic front attachment detection saves time.

Ready for harvesting.

Your combine harvester configures the key parameters automatically to prepare for work more quickly. It does this based on the following information it receives from the front attachment module: cutterbar type, working width, number of sections, reel position, parking position and the AUTO CONTOUR set values for working height and hectare counter.

You benefit right from the start.

  • The combine harvester is ready to harvest in next to no time.
  • It is significantly easier to operate.
  • The positions of the reel, VARIO cutterbar table and feeder housing are taken into account to rule out the risk of collisions and damage.

Front attachments for every requirement.

Greater choice for LEXION, TRION and EVION.

VARIO cutterbars are designed for the toughest harvesting conditions in grain, rapeseed and rice. The wide range of cutterbar widths, from the VARIO 1380 to the VARIO 500 allows them to be used on all LEXION, TRION and EVION models.

Hydraulic table adjustment.

The crop flow is always optimal.

You can easily adjust the position of the cutterbar table from –100 mm to +600 mm by means of the multifunction lever.

You therefore have an infinitely variable overall adjustment range of 700 mm with which you can optimise the cutterbar for the prevailing harvesting conditions.

Rapeseed knives being fitted to the VARIO cutterbar.

Fast conversion to rapeseed.

Conversion to rapeseed harvesting takes you only a few minutes thanks to the integrated rapeseed plates and the rapeseed knives which can be fitted without tools. The entire adjustment range of 70 cm remains available, even with the rapeseed knives attached. As well as permitting a very compact transport position, this means that rapeseed knives can also be used in other crops, such as field beans.

Adjustment of intake auger height.

Precise adjustment produces the best results.

A trouble-free crop flow starts right at the cutterbar, with the correct height setting of the intake auger being a particularly important factor.
Height scales are therefore provided on the left and right sides to aid easy adjustment.
In the case of the larger working widths of the VARIO 1080 and higher, the divided intake auger can also be adjusted hydraulically in the centre.

  • Control via CEBIS or directly on the cutterbar
  • Adaptation to crop type, yield and conditions

The stripper plates in the cutterbar trough can also be adjusted conveniently from outside.

The drives.

Designed for very high throughput.

The drive system of the VARIO cutterbars is designed for very high throughput and long harvest campaigns.

Detail view: Drives on the left-hand side of the cutterbar.

Simply mechanical.

Intake auger and knife bar.

A planetary gear system ensures that the knife bar drive runs extremely smoothly. When you change the position of the cutterbar table, the drive shaft adjusts telescopically at the same time.
This allows you to continue working in any position without the need for operator intervention. The intake auger and knife drive are protected by individual overload clutches.

The low-maintenance drive train is matched precisely to the divided reel design used in these models. With knives driven synchronously at left and right via planetary gears, the cutter bar runs very smoothly. The gear units are also equipped with overload clutches.

Offers multiple advantages.

The new reel drive.

A hydraulic motor and a gearbox provide the drive:

  • Longer maintenance intervals and therefore reduced maintenance effort required
  • Cutterbar table can also be fully retracted with rapeseed knives attached
  • Possible to work with rapeseed knifes in various different crops
  • Compact transport position on the transport trailer with rapeseed knives fitted
  • Allows automatic reel tractive force control

Greater cutting force and easy fitting.

Mechanical rapeseed knives.

The cutting performance of the rapeseed knives has been increased by 50% compared with the previous model. As a result, even challenging areas can be harvested more easily and heavy weed growth at the edges of fields presents fewer problems.
The rapeseed knives are also easier to handle thanks to their 33% reduced weight which makes the fitting process quick and straightforward.

Precision cutting with AUTO CONTOUR.

Automatic front attachment guidance.

Optimal crop flow begins with the front attachment. CLAAS front attachments are equipped with the CONTOUR and AUTO CONTOUR automatic front attachment guidance systems in order to ensure that the cutterbar always follows the ground contours precisely.
You can set the required cutting height conveniently via CEBIS.
Cutterbars with CONTOUR adjust automatically to ground irregularities along the direction of travel. AUTO CONTOUR goes one step further, additionally enabling automatic compensation for surface irregularities across the direction of travel.

Sensor bands under the cutterbar are deflected by the undulations and trigger the actuation of the corresponding cutterbar rams.

  • Convenient direct setting using the multifunction lever or, for further adjustment, via CEBIS
  • Active cutting height control by means of AUTO CONTOUR
  • Transverse and longitudinal control can be overridden at any time
