CLAAS renews its DISCO CONTOUR series and introduces new equipment features

For almost 30 years, CLAAS has been shaping the global forage harvest with its efficient, reliable and durable DISCO disc mowers. Innovations such as MAX CUT, ACTIVE FLOAT, SAFETY LINK and vector folding have enabled a steady increase in area output while improving forage quality and reducing energy input. This unique performance, coupled with industry-leading reliability and durability, are the basis for an outstanding customer satisfaction rate of 98 per cent today.

Twelve new DISCO CONTOUR mowers with centre of gravity suspension for the highest demands in professional forage harvesting now follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and impress with new features and equipment as well as a new design with grey protective covers.

The latest generation DISCO CONTOUR can be recognised by its grey protective covers and the optional counterweight.

Proven backbone: MAX CUT mower bar with bolted mower bed.

Launched in 2015, the MAX CUT mower bar still stands out for its uncompromisingly clean cutting pattern, clean forage and maximum sward protection with high cutting power and the best possible efficiency thanks to a high cutting frequency at a reduced PTO shaft speed (850 rpm). The innovative mower bar also stands for maximum reliability and a long service life - thanks to its bolted, torsion-resistant design made of fine-grain steel with the one-piece moulded bar trough, but also thanks to the first-class manufacturing quality at the Bad Saulgau production site. The MAX CUT mower bar also owes its reliability and durability to the wear protection rivets on the cutter discs, a tungsten carbide coating on the undersides of the blade holders, which is familiar from professional tillage equipment, and the SAFETY LINK safety module. What's more, thanks to the arm's angled pivot point, the mower bar not only swings backwards in the event of contact with an obstacle, but also upwards at the same time and is thus swivelled safely out of the danger zone.

Thanks to the special wave shape of the mower bed, which is stamped from a single piece, the large drive pinions of the mower discs are mounted particularly far forward and thus enable the largest possible overlap, with several teeth meshing at two points each. Even disc spacing also ensures a uniform cutting pattern.

All MAX CUTs are also equipped with lifetime lubrication for low maintenance and reduced maintenance costs. Practical details such as the portable blade box and the red-painted disc covers with identically coloured blades according to the direction of rotation make it much easier to change blades.

Thanks to its bolted mower bed, the mower bar is extremely resilient and torsion-resistant. Various wear protection elements ensure lengthy replacement intervals, while the blade box and red-coloured blades for counter-clockwise rotating cutter discs make knife changes much easier.

Clean forage, low side draft: cutter bar relief via ACTIVE FLOAT.

The ACTIVE FLOAT hydropneumatic cutter bar suspension is integrated as standard on all models. It enables the ground pressure to be adjusted from the driver's seat using a single-acting control unit, with the pressure gauge on the headstock showing the pressure. This means that only as much ground pressure as necessary is used under all conditions of use - the basis for low forage contamination and the best cutting quality with maximum protection of the sward for quick re-emergence. In addition, wear on the mower bar is reduced, the tractive power requirement is lower and side pull is minimised.

With the latest generation DISCO CONTOUR, a counterweight is now available that ensures a more even load on the tractor's rear wheels, especially with larger working widths and lighter tractors. Particularly on slopes, headlands can be turned much faster and more safely. Depending on the equipment and working width, the right number of individual weights always ensures optimum balance. Parking is possible when folded out and also in transport position with the optional parking device.

On the road, the 120-degree folding enables stable, safe transport without a large swivelling range and allows the operator an almost uninterrupted view to the rear through the rear-view mirror.

A new feature is the optional counterweights for a more even load on the tractor's rear wheels - especially with light tractors and on slopes.

More than 7.0 metres working width: DISCO 4400 CONTOUR with vector folding.

At the top of the DISCO CONTOUR series is the DISCO 4400 CONTOUR with a working width of 4.2 metres. In addition to its power thanks to the enormous overall working width of 7.0 m in conjunction with a DISCO 3200 F PROFIL or DISCO 3200 F MOVE, the mower is characterised by the diagonal, three-dimensional 120-degree vector folding for vertical, safe and legal road transport below a transport height of 4.0 m and with a minimum swivel range. This makes it a powerful and compact alternative to triple mower combinations, especially in larger, flat fields.

Wilt as required: conditioner with tines, polyurethane rollers or steel rollers.

For the DISCO 3600 RC CONTOUR with roller conditioner, more aggressive steel rollers with double roller drive are now available as an alternative to the gentle polyurethane rollers. This equipment is particularly recommended for use in thick-stemmed crops such as sorghum, and can now also be ordered for the DISCO 1100 RC BUSINESS large-scale mowers and the 3600 F MOVE and DISCO 3200 F MOVE front mowers with RC roller conditioner. The double drive with scissor gearbox - also available as an option for the RC models with polyurethane rollers - not only transmits higher torques and thus enables a high throughput even with extreme growth rates, but also stands for reliability and durability.

In the DISCO 2800 C, DISCO 3200 C and DISCO 3600 C, the helically arranged, V-shaped tine conditioner ensures efficient conditioning. The conditioning intensity can be adjusted without tools using a conditioning plate. The elastically mounted tines deflect foreign objects such as large stones and thus protect the conditioner shaft and drives from damage.

From now on, buyers can choose between tine conditioners with elastically mounted steel tines, roller conditioners with polyurethane rollers and roller conditioners with steel rollers - the latter with the powerful double drive with scissor gear as standard.

All DISCO CONTOUR conditioner mowers are equipped as standard with infinitely adjustable swathing plates for precise swath formation. As an option, DISCO RC models with roller conditioner can be equipped with two telescopic additional swath plates - ideal for particularly narrow swaths such as alfalfa mowing.

Digital assistance with CLAAS connect: DISCO mowers in CLAAS connect web and APP applications.

All DISCO mowers from CLAAS are stored directly in the customer's CLAAS connect as part of the machine handover. This gives the customer continuous mobile access to digital operating instructions, the lubricant guide and the CLAAS Parts Shop for ordering original CLAAS lubricants, wear and wear parts. This means that users have everything in one place - no more misplaced operating manuals and tedious searches for suitable lubricants and spare parts. This service is free of charge for DISCO customers in CLAAS connect and is available in both the web version and the app.

CLAAS connect also offers comprehensive machine and farm management functions that also support forage harvesting. Supported by satellite maps, vegetation monitoring is helpful for forage harvest planning, for example, and harvest maps in the GeoCentre can show the success of the forage harvest.

The most important arguments in favour of the new DISCO CONTOUR series at a glance:

  • 12 new disc mowers from 2.60 to 4.20 m working width in a new design with grey protective cloths.
  • MAX CUT mower bar suspended from the centre of gravity for the best cutting quality with maximum grain protection and durability.
  • Red-painted protective caps and blades for anti-clockwise rotating discs and portable blade box make it easier to change blades.
  • Hydropneumatic ACTIVE FLOAT cutter bar suspension as standard.
