Whether round bales or square bales – CLAAS offers powerful machines for both. If you prefer round bales, the CLAAS range includes two round balers: the ROLLANT and the VARIANT.

Round bales have many advantages. They are less sensitive to rain, easy to store and weatherproof, and they can be easily rolled for feeding, for example in the feed passage. Whether hay, straw or silage – CLAAS round balers produce perfectly shaped bales for every requirement.

The ROLLANT series

The ROLLANT round baler has been part of the CLAAS range since 1976. It is the world’s best-selling fixed chamber baler. Depending on the model, up to 16 baling rollers ensure compact bales with high core compaction, which is particularly important when harvesting silage. The ROLLANT UNIWRAP round baler wraps silage bales firmly and airtight with up to six layers of film. To minimise film consumption, you can pre-stretch the film by up to 82%. It is important that wrapping creates an airtight seal so that the fermentation process, which is essential for silage, can begin. This ensures that the valuable forage can be stored for months.

Razor-sharp, clean cuts.

The ROLLANT series uses the ROTO CUT system. The 25-knife cutting rotor works quickly, precisely and effectively for optimum forage quality. A short and precise cut is important because it is the only way to increase the compaction of cut forage in the round baler so that it breaks down more easily down the track. ROTO CUT gives you 44 or 70-mm lengths of cut of excellent quality. The high rotor speed supports more than 13,800 cuts/min. ROTO FEED is particularly suitable for harvesting delicate forage crops such as alfalfa. This system works with rotor stars to protect the crop. The result is top quality forage.

VARIANT equals variable.

Alongside the ROLLANT, the VARIANT has been part of the CLAAS range of round balers since 1996. The ROLLANT has a variable bale chamber for bale sizes from 0.90 to 1.80 m in diameter. The VARIANT is also variable when it comes to programme selection: operators simply use the CEMIS terminal to set the crop to be baled, whether hay, straw or silage. The baler then automatically adjusts to the crop.

Fast tying.

The VARIANT ties round bales in the shortest possible time and at speeds of up to 3 metres per second. This is particularly important when harvest windows are tight. The VARIANT takes just 6 seconds to deposit a bale in the field – from opening the hatch to closing it again. With the VARIANT, you therefore bale more bales per hour. The 360° ACTIVE ROTOR ensures an optimum bale start, resulting in an extra hard bale core. The ROTO CUT system with 14 or 17 knives on the VARIANT also ensures that the crop is optimally portioned. The VARIANT’s SMART DENSITY management system fully automatically adjusts the belt tension and guidance to control the pressure according to the preset values for each crop. The result is an optimum bale shape in all conditions.
