Yield monitoring is the first step in using a combine to help identify the effects that weather, soil properties and management practices can have on crop production at harvest. Highly accurate sensors within the flow of grain measure the quantity of harvested grain and the moisture content while the grain is carried to the grain tank. This information is displayed, in a real-time frequency, to the operator via the in-cab monitoring system.
Yield mapping takes monitoring to the next level by combining information from the yield monitor with information from a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. Yield data can be saved. Special mapping software is used to display a visual representation (yield map) of the trends occurring within the field.
