1997 represents the start of a joint-venture between CLAAS and Caterpillar Inc., bringing the LEXION combine to Caterpillar dealers and North-American farmers. Omaha, Nebraska, was chosen as the preferred location due to its close proximity to North America's corn and wheat belt.
Manufacturing of LEXION combines was started right away in a temporary facility until construction of the main building was finished. In 2001, a grand opening moved production into one of the most modern combine production plants worldwide.
In 2002, CLAAS became the sole owner of the Omaha plant and started operating as CLAAS Omaha LLC. As a subsidiary of CLAAS KGaA, CLAAS Omaha is responsible for manufacturing, sales and support of all LEXION products sold in the U.S. and Canada.
In December 2003, the headquarters for CLAAS of America relocated from Columbus, IN to Omaha, NE. CLAAS' main parts facility in North-America remains in Columbus, IN, and houses parts for LEXION combines and all other North American CLAAS products.
